Key Considerations When Selecting LED Underwater Lights

12-11 14:48

LED underwater lights are a type of lighting fixture installed at the bottom of water bodies. They characterize a compact, delicate shape that’s aesthetically pleasing and stylish, with an appearance similar to certain in-ground lights, but they come with an additional mounting base secured by screws. Due to their underwater use LED lights need to withstand certain pressures and are typically made of stainless steel, 8-10mm tempered glass, high-quality waterproof connectors, silicone rubber sealing rings, and arc-shaped multi-angle refractive reinforced glass to ensure they are waterproof, dustproof, leak-proof, and corrosion-resistant.

LED underwater lights are suitable for underwater illumination in large swimming pools, fountains, aquariums, and similar venues.

When choosing LED underwater lights consider the following aspects:

  1. Safety Features: In landscape settings, the safety of the LED underwater lights is paramount. A 12V safe voltage LED underwater light must be used in accordance with national standards.
  2. Illumination Function: The lighting function refers primarily to the brightness of the light source. Different wattages of LED underwater lights can be chosen based on the height and area of illumination. Another factor is the color of the underwater lights, typically available in red, yellow, green, blue, and white, which can be selected according to the application site, the target of illumination, and the desired ambiance.
  3. Appearance, Design, and Housing Material: Although underwater lanterns are used underwater, their appearance is not very visible. However, appearance and material are related to the proportionality of the light fixtures. If the density is too low, significant buoyancy will arise, easily loosening the fixing screws of the underwater lights and causing the fixtures to float on the water surface. If the fixture is too heavy, it will be difficult for the lamp base to support it. Moreover, as they are used underwater for extended periods, the housing material should have anti-corrosion properties, and the surface paint layer should be durable.
  4. Economic Efficiency: The economic efficiency of underwater lighting fixtures refers to the sum of the one-time investment and operating expenses of the lights. Generally, higher-quality underwater lighting fixtures cost more but last longer and incur lower operating costs. In contrast, cheaper but lower-quality underwater fixtures may suffer from leakage or electrical short issues leading to failure, not only increasing operating expenses but also impacting the acceptance of the entire project.
